Obscure Upper Deck MLS Sets

Here's a look at three Upper Deck MLS sets that are very difficult to assemble and locate. Let's start with the 1996 Upper Deck Bandai set, yes these are the ones that come with action figures, but the cards are awesome. I've chosen to display the Cobi Jones card, read the trivia at the bottom of this post. The 12 card 2000 Upper Deck Pepsi is very hard to locate, the addition of coach Sigi Schmid makes it even more unique (only MLS coach ever pictured on an Upper Deck card). Check out Sigi and Cobi in this pic. The set that I find most interesting in the 2004 Upper Deck Konica Minolta Best XI set. The photography and quality of this issue is fantastic, these cards are actually a tad smaller than regular cards.

Trivia: Did you know Cobi Jones is the only MLS player featured in every series of Upper Deck MLS cards, not to mention countless World Cup sets and even 1996 Olympic Hopefuls.

  1. Another obscure set is the 1994 Upper Deck US National Team Autograph set. It is hard to find (especially in mint condition) and has seperate COA's from the autographed cards. A true fidn for the soccer card collector.

  2. Thanks for the post, among my many 1993 UD WC boxes I was amazed to find a autographed serial numbered Meola a few years back. Thanks, Tex

  3. I got that sigi schmid car randomly stuffed into a set of tennis cards I got for an art project. Anybody actually want it?
